A Simulated View From A Panama City, FL Oil Spill Worker’s Prospective
Yesterday, you saw a picture of what was going on at some beaches 90 years ago…long before the BP oil disaster took hold of our minds, hearts, Gulf of Mexico waters, and its gorgeous white beaches.
Yeah, the “Hem Line Patrol” was on the beat protecting America’s eyes from “skin” back in the day.
Aaaaaahhhhggggg! Skin!!!!!!! Worse than Godzilla, no doubt.
• So, what’s the difference between today’s Taliban and yesteryear’s “Hem Line Patrol?”
• The beard.
(I’ll be here all week. Shows at 7 and 10. Tickets 25% off in advance…uh…No.)
Anyway…here’s just a quickie for you. (A real post coming up likely tomorrow…the Internet’s been down all over Alabama today, so, not much I could do about filling your eyes with decent oil spill job content.)
I thought I’d give you this modern day vista of what one could see from the beach – especially during March and April of every year at “PCB.” This is where, as you know, the oil spill jobs and oil spill cleanup crews are work tirelessly to give you a decent place to spend your hard earned money on belly-button piercings, henna tattoos, Chinese-imported sand-dollar clocks, dried starfish paperweights, and airbrushed t-shirts — with a scene of people wearing airbrushed t-shirts, no less.
Here’s and “Cheers” to PCB and its oil spill cleanup companies!
This actually is a photo from Panama City Beach. (It’s public domain if you’re wondering.) I bet you’re kinda glad that Spring Break is over for this year if you’re heading down to get one of the new oil spill jobs on the coast right now. That sort of activity going on beside you would be distracting, to say the least.
I know, I know. This is borderline ridiculous, and downright shameful promotion. It’s also a pitiful and unsuccessful attempt at an oil spill joke.
But you know what they say:
“Oils well that ends well.”
Sorry. No more of that.

THE BAD OLD DAYS ...long before beach oil spill clean up. This (questionably masculine) "Beach Policeman" is out measuring hem lines to make sure they don't violate "Decency Codes." You probably won't see this during your oil spill employment.

Just so we’re clear: I’m using the term “Panama City, FL” to refer to both Panama City Beach and Panama City, proper. But anybody who’s been going there since childhood (like myself) knows it’s just all lumped together and called Panama City or “PCB.”

Florida Oil Spill Jobs Update

Florida! #1 Oil Spill Job State Now And (especially) In The Future
It’s “Day 95″ of the BP oil spill tragedy / fiasco / horror / mess. You can pick your adjective. It makes no difference. It’s just generally bad. Unless you want some kind of oil spill employment. Especially if you’re looking for an oil spill job in Florida.
Now, I know there is oil spill work going on in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, but Florida is the state with the big bucks. They have the massive state budget plus the most profit to lose from tourism declines, so, Florida oil spill jobs is the obvious conclusion you come to when you’re wondering where the continued oil work hotspots will be now that the active leak at the busted well head way out and 5000 feet under the Gulf of Mexico has stopped flowing for a few days now.
In case it slipped your mind, the oil was capped on July 15th. At least, that’s what they say. But BP isn’t always known for their forthrightness in getting accurate info to the public about the oil spill and the oil spill jobs like we would hope. (Case in point: BP altering images of their control room.)
So, what’s the latest on the Florida oil spill job situation? I’ll give you a few facts…
Florida Oil Spill Jobs Fast Facts
Oil Spill Jobs Hopefully Replace Some Of The Losses In Gulf Of Mexico
The U.S. Travel Association (whoever they are) just published a study saying that the Gulf Coast region will lose approximately $23 billion in tourism profits, and it may take three years (if we’re lucky) to clean up the beaches well enough for vacationers to come on back in their usual large numbers.
Hopefully, though, there will be at least some of the BP oil spill disaster burden relieved by the new and various oil spill jobs that abound because this Gulf oil leak is sooooooo big.
Take a look at this map. The good ol’ New York Times has been doing a great job of showing us graphically where the oil is and where it’s profoundly come ashore.

Oil Spill Area As Of July 18, 2010 Map Credit: NYTimes
You can see the entire area of the Gulf that the oil’s affecting, and you can see the coast line marked with yellow, red, and dark red signifying the level of oil that has washed ashore.
Folks, this is just the beginning. What you see on the oil spill map above it The Beginning Only. We are 3 months out from the beginning of the oil spill, and it’s only been shut off for a week now. And there’s much talk about the well having to be reopened or the possibility of the oil pressure on the surrounding seafloor from the out-of-control oil is so bad that it could just start erupting from anywhere.
I know that we’re supposed to be all excited about the prospects of the oil spill jobs careers lasting for decades…and I am. But I sure do hope that the oil doesn’t just exploded through the bottom of the ocean! Apparently, that will be exponentially more difficult to control. I can’t even imagine.
So, here we are, and let’s say the remains of Deepwater Horizon’s blown well head never drips another drop of crude ever again. We still will have a massive need for more hires in the oil spill jobs revolution going on in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. There will be mountains of need of oil spill job workers in many area. Let’s go somewhere with this we haven’t gone before…
Administrative Oil Spill Jobs: More and More and More Oil Spill Job Specialties
Administrative oil spill jobs: There are and will be many oil spill administrative positions for many years surrounding the Gulf of Mexico. Pretty much any industry you can think of will likely have multiple “on-site oil spill experts” that are full-time, in-house consultants guiding companies on any decisions that have to be made about the BP oil spill and other employees directly involved in the oil spill jobs.
These special, new oil spill management jobs do some functions like an oil spill lawyer might as far as advising the company what is likely legally permissible and not legally permissible. There will be oil spill consultants, oil spill advisers, oil spill managers, oil spill supervisors, oil spill executives…all matter of administrative oil spill jobs including the “foreman” or “shift leader.” These last two are the oil spill upper management’s “front line” in making sure corporate policies are adhered to by the majority workers.
This is just ONE of the specializations that the BP oil spill jobs positions will be seeing more and more of. There are plenty other specialties in the oil spill job field that we’ll discuss later.
Gulf of Mexico 2010 Hurricane Season and Effect on Oil Spill Jobs

July 21, 2010: National Hurricane Center's Summary Map
Often times in dealing with the Gulf oil spill, Mother Nature’s furious hand comes in and temporarily puts a halt to the oil spill jobs currently going. This is especially true for the work being done over the old Deepwater Horizon site about 50 southeast of the delta’d mouth of the Mississippi river.
As we speak, there is a tropical disturbance sitting right about the midway point between Northern Haiti and the south end of the Turks and Caicos islands (they look like an extension of the Bahamas…just further south and east.)
Because of this, the Coast Guard — who has final say-so when it comes to judgment calls for oil spill jobs on the safety of a particular maneuver, construction plan, or when the weather takes a turn for the worse — is making tentative plans to get out of the open Gulf of Mexico waters ASAP should the tropical disturbance become a “Tropical OMG!”
